DEAR POLE BARN GURU: Who do y’all use for financing?

Do y’all have anyone who finances already built pole barns or know of anyone who finances already built pole barns in Georgia? ELIZABETH IN GEORGIA

DEAR ELIZABETH: Our lenders finance for new pole barns to be constructed on improved residential property only. Not sure why you would need financing on a building which is already built, however I would suggest you discuss your situation with your current bank or credit union, as they might be able to assist you depending upon your credit worthiness, of course.

DEAR POLE BARN GURU: Can a pole barn be attached to a steel building? DEBBIE IN STOCKTON

DEAR DEBBIE: One of the beauties of post frame (pole barn) construction is the ability to attach the new addition to virtually any type of existing building – including an all steel building. In the great majority of cases, the RDP (Registered Design Professional – engineer or architect) will design the attachment as a free standing structure. This will usually significantly reduce the costs of the overall project, as it eliminates the RDP having to do research, testing and examination of the existing building to confirm the adequacy to support the new addition.  In many cases, the existing building would need to have remedial work done in order to support the loads which would be imposed by a structural attachment.

Considering adding onto an existing building? Make certain the building kit provider (people like us at Hansen Pole Buildings), contractor or RDP is well versed in the peculiarities of adding onto an existing building.

Done right, it can be a beautiful thing, done wrong, a perpetual headache.
