This week the Pole barn Guru answers reader questions about the use of closed cell spray foam on the roof line of a metal building, what materials are included in a Hansen Pole Building kit, and an inquiry about the types of structures Hansen Buildings will design, such as an apartment.
DEAR POLE BARN GURU: Hi I recently had a customer of mine tell me that you don’t approve of spray foam being applied to the roof line. My question is why? I’m trying to get him the best insulation for his building and doing over 1000 metal buildings myself , my curiosity is why you don’t approve! Thanks ~ ROB in ARIZONA
DEAR ROB: We actually are proponents of closed cell spray foam being applied directly to underside of roof steel (provided roof steel does not have a factory applied Integral Condensation Control). Closed cell spray foam would actually be our insulation of choice in Arizona.
DEAR POLE BARN GURU: I am curious whether your residential pole buildings come with everything including plumbing and electrical, or are they just the structure? ELI
DEAR ELI: Our mission is to provide you with a fully engineered weather tight shell (including doors and winds) as well as any raised wood floors and stairs. Insulation, MEPS (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) and interior finishes would be furnished by providers of those specialties chosen by you.
DEAR POLE BARN GURU: Years ago I had Morton design a four plex apartment building using poles and trusses. Does Hansen offer this type of design service? RICHARD in ROCHESTER
DEAR RICHARD: You have come to the right place. We have an in house design service and we can provide your building including fully engineered structural plans. A member of our design team will be reaching out to you directly to further discuss your wants and needs, or call 1.866.200.9657 for immediate service.
