Parishioners celebrate Christmas Eve Mass in a Pole Barn

They say the church is not a building. It’s the people.

Here is an article which addresses this very subject: https://www.mlive.com/news/bay-city/index.ssf/2015/12/after_their_church_closed_pari.html

pole barn massOver the years, Hansen Pole Buildings has designed and provided numerous buildings for church communities across the country. These are buildings which were purposefully designed to meet the needs of the particular congregation, from the beginning, rather than the case of the good citizens of Munger, Michigan – who made an existing pole building meet their worshipping wants.

Probably the very first of these was a 40 foot by 70 foot building to be used as a sanctuary for a growing church in the Carolinas. As with many young churches, budget was a huge priority. By using post frame technologies, they were able to have designed for them a custom building which they could construct with volunteer help – saving tens of thousands of dollars!

One of the more popular designs for churches are multi-purpose structures which can be used for athletic gymnasiums (usually basketball and/or volleyball), as well as for community gatherings. (Read about volleyball courts here: https://www.hansenpolebuildings.com/2013/09/pole-barn-11/).

Back in the mid-1980’s, my church in Keizer, Oregon (https://www.sainteds.com/ ), had the need for a building to store their “stuff”.  At the time, most of the stuff was the resultant of holding the beer garden for the annual Keizer Iris Festival (https://irisfestival.com/ ) in the church parking lot. Being as I happened to be in the building providing business, I eagerly donated a 42 foot wide by 60 foot long by 16 foot eave pole building kit package.

A team of about a dozen of parishioners, with limited construction experience, erected the building in one weekend (Day number two started after Mass on Sunday).

Regardless of the needs of your church, whether for a sanctuary, gymnasium, classrooms, or a myriad of other possibilities, pole building construction is very possibly going to be the most viable design solution to incorporate needed features and space, along with budget.
