Client Communication Is Key

Flame On

As a youngster Marvel Comics Johnny Storm (aka The Human Torch) of The Fantastic Four always captivated me with his, “Flame On”!

In today’s world, the average person with internet access can literally “Flame On!” any business or individual. I believe in being straight upfront and honest, so I will share today. I believe in the good, along with the bad. First, what a client posted on Facebook, then my response.

From our client:

“Kelly states below that your pole building will be better if you build it yourself…..Absolutely true, after you do the redisign work to make everything fit and structurally more stable. I bought one of their buildings (12×20) for cold storage, and have spent over $1000.00 in additional materials that were not included with the kit, just to make it sound enough to withstand normal conditions. Parts were missing, materials not properly sized for the design, and my frustration level is off the chart!!! I really regret making the buy from Hansen. I should have seen the red flags go up, when the salesman said it could be put up in two days by two guys. How wrong could he have been? Very!! My bad, because I bought the bill of goods he was selling, and didn’t realize, until I got into the actual build how far off their designs were. I basically, threw out their plans and added good ole common sense to the build, and upgraded nearly every facett of the job. The disparity in the print, vs, the instructions (vary vague, at best), was astounding. On one, a dimension was noted, and then in the instructions another was given, which totally confused and frustrated me. Not happy with what I paid good money for, and now, I am dealing with making the decision whether or not to buy more materials and do another redesigne so the gable sheeting fits. I will have to add soffitts (not in the build plans, no purchased), but, in order for the sheeting to fit, I must add soffitts. Not a good deal from day one, and only getting worse as I go. My best advise: Find a local company to build the building from start to finish, and save yourself a lot of anguish and additional expense!!”

Mr. xxxxxx ~ Communication is the key to any successful relationship. Myself and the rest of the Hansen Pole Buildings team pride ourselves in listening to our clients and responding to their needs and ideas. Because of this, our product is constantly evolving to make a great building even better. Our plans and Construction Manual are the resultant of feedback from over 17,000 clients.

I personally have checked the records attached to your file and have seen not a single communication from you, regarding any of the challenges you may have had. As Technical Director, I oversee the management of any client inquiries for assistance – a service we provide at no charge to you. Again, we have no record of any inquiry. We can only solve things we know about.

Every Hansen Pole Building is structurally checked by a state-of-the-art proprietary software program. Every member of the building is verified for its ability to carry the climactic loads which are to be imposed upon it – wind, snow and seismic. This program has been thoroughly tested for adequacy by independent professional engineers.

Before your building materials were shipped, a pdf version of the structural building plans was approved online by you. Now the plans do show where every board on the building is placed, as well as all of the connections. We’d greatly appreciate a complete listing of all of the errors you found on either the plans or in our Construction Manual. Had we been provided with this information, at the time, it would have allowed us to quickly assist you with the process – minimizing frustrations.

Construction-Manual_editedEvery Hansen Pole Buildings’ client has a unique login to our website. It allows for a myriad of functions – such as reviewing building plans online, access electronically to the Construction Manual, reporting damage or shortages, as well as contacting our Technical Support team. Our system again shows no reports placed by you for missing, incorrectly sized or damaged materials. Had a timely report been made – any of the issues would have been resolved without you having to pay for other materials.

I am concerned about, “I am dealing with making the decision whether or not to buy more materials and do another redesigne so the gable sheeting fits. I will have to add soffitts (not in the build plans, no purchased), but, in order for the sheeting to fit, I must add soffitts“. As an educated guess, you have built your building taller in height than what you ordered and the dimensions shown on the plans.

Rather than making a long post longer, there is some good reading available on eave height here: https://www.hansenpolebuildings.com/2015/02/eave-height-2/

I don’t know about the two men, two days. As a professional builder (I ran as many as 35 pole building crews in six states), here is my take on construction time: https://www.hansenpolebuildings.com/…/04/construction-time/

Any good building project, just like any good relationship, is only as good as the communication between the two parties. If one side of the relationship is not expressing their wants, needs or concerns to the other party – then feelings end up being hurt, where they didn’t have to be.

No matter whom one orders a building from – whether it is a kit package or constructed, the end resultant is only going to be as good as what was communicated between and agreed to by the parties involved.

I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to review the specifics of any challenges you encountered. Your feedback allows us to improve.
